CARTOONIST, ILLUSTRATOR, ESCAPIST…

I was born in 1972, grew up in Durban and moved to Jozi in 2002 to pursue my dreams of becoming
a full-time cartoonist, as opposed to just doodling
them wistfully until the boss walked in or a
customer wanted something.

My computer and I have an I'd-like-you-more-if-
I-could-figure-you-out sort of relationship.
It works both ways. All of my illustrations are
completed by hand in mixed media – ink,
drawing markers, watercolours, acrylics,
gouache and colour pencils.

Previous artistic endeavours include fashion
storyboarding, fabric painting
(T-shirts and
upholstery), sign writing, cartooning on décor
furniture, murals, theatre props,
and tattoo design.

Current artistic freelance includes editorial
illustration and cartooning, educational book
illustration and covers, corporate and private
commissions, scrapbook alphabet design, as well
as greeting cards and wrapping paper.

I'm hoping to write and illustrate my own books
as well when I'm not flogging deadlines to pay
the rent around here.

Favourite cartoonists – Mort Drucker (most highly
esteemed), Paul Coker, Jack Davis, Angelo Torres,
Brooke McEldowney, Gary Larson, Henry Flint,
Jae Lee.

It's true. I do see people and animals as prospective caricatures.
