Tony
Grogan has become something of a national
institution: he has been drawing cartoons for the Cape
Times since
1974 and, more recently, for the Sunday
Independent, and commenting
on our national life with
his characteristically gentle and witty humour
that
often gets right home.
Tony was born and grew up in the
Eastern Cape
and was educated at Selborne College and at
Rhodes
University.
He is the author of 5 books of his paintings and
drawings
which have
become valued Africana.
He has held numerous one-man exhibitions of
his paintings and has
published a number of
collections of
his cartoons.
The above caricature of Tony was drawn a
few years
back by Ralph Steadman when Tony had more hair
on his head! If you are unable to read the caption,
it states that it was "drawn in Malawian Ink and
Welsh Spit"
