After an all too brief childhood spent see-sawed between
South Africa and Europe, awe-struck at the wonder of
everything and developing a keen drawing wrist,
I matriculated in 1996 at Damelin and won the Design
of the Year award for that year. And, having narrowly
avoided a career in engineering, opted instead to study
advertising in Jo'burg.
Disillusioned, I then went ahead to study for a further 3
years, honing skills of graphic design, animation,
photography, calligraphy and more mediums than I can
shake a pencil to, for which I have a Diploma in Visual
Arts, and a pocketfull of certificates and other
memorabilia.
Since, having moved to Cape Town to follow a career in
animation and visual effects with Atomic VFX for the past
3 and a half years, I have regularly provided services as a
freelance illustrator for Nasou Via Afrika and Tafelberg
on various kids' textbooks and book covers.
The promotion of comics in SA is something that I've been
keen to invest in, as i've had a great exposure to the
medium having worked at Outer Limits comic shop while
studying and, later doing conceptual design and
storyboards for Atomic. All the while, my nights are spent
largely developing some comics of my own... yes,
another one.
This year, of stockpiling artwork I start exhibiting my
work, starting in JHB the exhibition will move to Cape
Town, by which time I hope to have more to display.
I've been laying low to perfect a time efficient, versatile
'style' and developing experimental techniques, using
digital media to push the envelope of illustration because,
at the end of the day, I love to draw... anything...
anywhere.
Likes and dislikes: While I enjoy hanging from cliff with
frayed fingers, I really don't like self-portraits.
