Alby Mavimbela was born November 79, in Soweto.
He always loved comics. loved to draw anything and
everything and he knew that he can do this. The more He drew,
the better illustrator he became. He went to a primary school
in Soweto then Lenasia. Got in trouble a few times for drawing teachers,
and suspended from school. But it was practice. When he finished matric,
he studied Graphic design and photography and achieved a
National Higher diploma in graphic design in 2002.

He had his first job at love life in 2003. He wrote and illustrated
a comic page for the love-life magazine, called Uncut. He called his
comic page Uncut-toon. He held on for two years. He started drawing
comics for the Sunday Times ReadRight supplement in 2004.
In 2008, he was hired as an illustrator for The Learning channel.
Besides being an illustrator he does layout and design at Learning channel.
He also has monthly comic strips for company newsletters like
Steinmüller Africa (since 2009) and others.

He has always had stories and different characters in his head.
With the little time he has, he jots and sketches down ideas on
his scrapbook. With a lot of encouragement and motivation from
Mthombothi Studio’s he has completed two kid’s comic books called
Tholakele; it’s about a little girl who get’s lost and found.
Tholakele has also been put together with six other stories
from different authors.

He gets a lot on inspiration from different artists, books and people
and he hopes he will be an inspiration to others too. This is a small
and competitive industry but we try to have fun and keep learning
other creative and interesting skills.
