I started my career in 1995 as an advertising copywriter
in Johannesburg
and Cape Town , but gave it up after four
years. I worked for Ogilvy and Mather JHB and Publicis
Cape Town,
I managed to get an ad of the month or two , a New York
Print Finalist, a Loerie finalist, and two Silver Loeries.
I did quite a lot of TV work, including a British Airways
TV ad that ran internationally for nine years.
I headed off on a cycling adventure to Europe.
In October 1999 I moved to
Plett, quit advertising
and started drawing comics
I doodled cartoons for the local tabloid for about
four
years. Since then I have also featured in Biophile
Environmental Magazine , Noseweek Magazine, and
“Bending the Curve”, a book about global warming by
Africa Geographic.
In October 2008 year I won a t-shirt design competition
( I was the conceptualiser) on Springleap.com with Mike
the Legend (anonymous by Request, paranoid of the
internet). See “e-Sempowenis”, Springleap.com, and done
conceptual freelancing on Kids shows for TV (Jakkals Jol).
Mostly, I draw comics for my blog,
happychickensuicidecult.blogspot.com. I specialise in
conceptual work of any kind, mainly humour, in the form
of black and white single or multi panel gags.
